Course Objectives: This course is an examination of music from WWII to the present day that has grappled with commemoration of historical events, tragedy, natural disasters, epidemics, and cultural achievements. Topics include: 1968 and revolution, the Vietnam War, epidemics, the Civil Rights era, 9/11, and the Middle East conflict/s. Critical readings and listening will be used to explore how sound may influence or manipulate.
