Syllabus: INTERPRETATION IN TONAL MUSIC
The subject of this course and the method used to teach it were developed by prof. Vladimir Scolnic.
Workshops and classes using this method were delivered in various institutions of higher learning in USA (Boston, New York, Oklahoma) Romania(Bucharest), Spain (Malaga), Colombia (Bogota), Poland (Warsaw) and Israel (Tel Aviv, Jerusalem)

Seminar Description:
Performance of music has several aspects, among them the physical, motoric, psychological, emotional and cognitive ones.
Understanding the significance of musical structures, mastering the ways and tools of interpretation are essential for a music player, because of the scope of performance to recreate a musical process
The meaning of musical structures cannot be realized in performance without comprehension of the language they belong to, and definition of the expressive meaning of theoretically understood sound structures.
The expressive meaning of sound structures in any music is built by a network of unifying points and territories of tension. Unifying points or territories of musical tension are places which unite and orient to them the musical process on a given level, starting with the basic unit until the whole piece.

Understanding analogically Newton’s Universal laws of Gravitation and Laws of Motion have an impact on micro and macro processes in a musical work, by being significant means of defining the unifying points and the hierarchy of territories of tension of a given work.
Course Aims:
-Learning to integrate theoretical, aural knowledge, technical skills and other necessary tools in musical performance.
-Providing students with tools and concepts to build a musical artistic performance.
Learning Outcomes
-At the end of the seminar students will demonstrate their musical interpretation and mastering of the process of recreating music.
-Students will perform musical fragments and /or works integrating their theoretical knowledge and aural skills by applying them in musical performance
